Empower Future Initiative Partners with Coursera to Offer 500 Free Digital Skills Scholarships to Underserved Nigerian Youth

Nigeria

In a groundbreaking move to bridge Nigeria’s digital divide and create new pathways to economic empowerment, Empower Future Initiative (EFI) has officially announced a strategic partnership with global online learning leader Coursera to provide 500 fully funded digital skills scholarships for young Nigerians from underserved communities.

The partnership will enable selected learners to access world-class online courses and professional certificates from global institutions such as Google, Meta, IBM, Yale, and the University of London, among other top international universities and industry leaders, helping them gain the digital and career-ready skills needed to thrive in today’s knowledge economy.

Beyond the scholarship, EFI is introducing a unique motivational program, a “2GB Weekend Data Grant,” to help learners stay consistent with their studies. This independent initiative by EFI will provide beneficiaries with at least 2 gigabytes of internet data every weekend to encourage course completion and reduce barriers to online learning.

“This data support is our way of showing commitment to learner success,” said Ikechukwu Kelechukwu, Founder and Executive Director of Empower Future Initiative. “Access to online education means little without access to the internet. Our data grant is designed to help participants stay engaged and motivated to complete their courses.”

The scholarship will cover all 16,000+ professional courses and certifications on the Coursera platform, including in-demand digital courses such as Data Analysis, Web Development, Digital Marketing, Cybersecurity, Project Management, Artificial Intelligence, and UI/UX Design, complemented by mentorship and job readiness support.

EFI is also inviting corporate sponsors, donors, and development partners to support this bold vision by funding the data grants, mentorship sessions, and future scholarship cohorts, enabling even more Nigerian youth to access life-changing digital education opportunities.

“If we can support 500 learners today, we can support 5,000 in the coming years with the right partners,” said Chioma Samuel, EFI’s Education & Skills Development Lead.

The application is currently open. The deadline for application is November 10, 2025.

Together, let’s make learning accessible for all.
